In general I like this author. However, when you read a lot by the same author the books do start to become very formulaic. That is starting to happen to this author. Her characters are quite complex and you learn more about them as they intertwine in many of her books. This book focuses on the character of Catherine Ling who, if you have read others by this author, you already know fairly well. This book brings out a softer side to her, more of a maternal side. When I first began reading Iris Johansen one of the things I loved about her books is that frequently the unexpected happened; making you gasp while reading. However, that was missing in this book. Overall it is still a good read, very entertaining, but it doesn't bring the same level of story telling to it as her earlier novels.

As mentioned before, Iris Johansen is a favorite author. I have read her books from early romances into the mystery/romances of Eve Duncan and the various characters enmeshed in her life. I like Catharine Ling's character, but not as much as Eve Duncan, yet the two work very well together and as each new book comes out, my friends and I are quick to grab them up.
I love reading anything that Iris Johansen writes about, I really love the books about Eve and her family and friends.Done read this book and look forward to reading another book.
Each of Johansen's books are great. It rarely take her more than one or two books to finish a story line. If she does a trilogy it is worth the wait.
I love the way she has spun characters off her Eve Duncan books and is now writing great books about characters we met in an Eve Duncan book and really liked them. She is also great with stand alone books.

Her son is writing with her and is good as well.
I have enjoyed every IRIS JOHANSEN book I've ever read and this one is no exception. Such strong personalities, and then there are Caleb and Richard Cameron; such heroes and always there to help. This story took several twists which helped keep me very interested, as well as the "sick" and brutal side with Santos and Delores.
As usual iris Johansen has done it again! Love her books and the characters the She creates. I'm glad I get to follow ling and.Cameron on their journey! I hope this is not it for them. Highly recommend this author!
I generally like Iris Johansen's novels but I was disappointed with this one. When the Catherine character was introduced in a prior book, she was a sharp, intelligent, hard-hitting, take no prisoners spy. In this one she's lost her edge and spends her time worrying about everyone. Cameron, the read your mind, charismatic, bad boy is added to the story for foreplay purposes. He has access to the resources the CIA doesn't have. And, you have the resident psycho attempting to extract revenge by killing friends of Catherine's. It's an elaborate plan.
This book has so much action and suspense going on from the very beginning. It kept me reading to find out what Catherine, Cameron, Hu Chang, Luke, Sam and Venable were going to get into next. I like having all my favorite characters like Eve, Joe, Jane and Caleb together with Catherine. I want to find out more about Catherine and Cameron's relationship which I hope will be in the next book. Jane is still trying to get over Trevor but I would like to see her find her self again before she deals with her relationship with Caleb. Thank you Iris Johansen for another fantastic book.
